Taking the Leap

It's scary doing something you've never done before. Especially if the thing you're doing seems like complete insanity.

That's what I'm doing now.

You see, at the beginning of this year, I knew I was going to Cuba. What I didn't expect was that God may have another adventure in mind for me as well. An even slightly scarier adventure than traveling to a foreign country with a group of people I know and trust.

Back in March, I saw a scholarship application at my school for summer and fall study abroad. I initially brushed it off at first, but it drew me. I wasn't sure why at the time.

I began talking with the Office of Global Education at my college, and we began discussing the details for another possible trip to a Latin American country. Before I knew it, I was applying for the scholarship, thinking that there was no way I would get the amount of money I needed to pay for the trip.

Nevertheless, I asked the Lord that, if it was His will for me to go on this trip, that He would work out all of the details.

A couple weeks later, I received a scholarship for over $1800 to study abroad in Costa Rica. I was over the moon excited but terrified because I knew what this meant: Lord, it's your will for me to go on this trip. By myself.

I kept hitting speed bumps on the way. The plane ticket was more expensive than I thought. The class I am taking cost a LOT more than what it was supposed to. The costs seemed to keep getting higher and higher, despite the money the Lord allowed to receive in the first place.

Doubts began flooding my thoughts. But I kept praying. Kept asking God to work it out if this was His will or provide a way out if it wasn't.

And you know what?

He made a way. EVERY TIME. Somehow, Jesus not only provided the money that I needed but He provided me with even more. And He gave me all of the resources and people I needed to come here.

So I took that leap of faith.

Now I'm here. In San José with people I've never met before (but are some of the nicest human beings alive). There's an entire adventure to be had. An entire ocean to leap into and get swept away in,

And this is only the beginning.
